Im thinking about getting the T-mobiles new G1?
and i was wonder if i get the T-Mobile G1 Unlimited Web + Unlimited Messages $34.99/month*, will the service be for the whole family or just the SIM for the G1?

It’s the T-Mobile G1, so this particular phone is only sold by T-Mobile. It can be unlocked to use with other carriers like AT&T, though.

I was just wondering if you could get JUST the texting for the G1. or do you HAVE to get the data plan? i know it isnt out yet, but i was just wondering if anybody knew. cuz i cannot afford the data plan…no allowance

ok so im gana get the new g1 phone./..and i have wireless internet connection…do i need to buy the data plan to go on the internet on my G1 phone or can i just use the wireless connection to go on???..please help???

I don’t think they will sell it to you without it having a data plan because the 1st time you power on the phone, you have to link it to your google account and that requires you to connect to the internet. once you link your account to your phone you have the option to switch over to wifi (wireless connection)…possibly after you do all that, you may be able to call t mobile and tell them you want to cancel the data portion of your plan. im not for sure about that part tho….hope that helps

I’m waiting for an answer too, If you are going to use the internet from your phone, you don’t need anything, just to have the Total Internet Plan on your phone. but if you plan on tethering (connecting ur phone as modem) you may need the usb data cable AND that app. hasn’t come out yet…for tethering…right now that option is not available (tethering with the G1). But once again if you plan on surfing the internet from your phone…u’re good to go. Also I was told the G1 comes with wi-fi capability..so if you have DSL wireless already at home or work….you can get online with ur phone without any problem…enjoy the new G1! lol..

You must buy the data package. There are different packages that contain texting and some that don’t. There’s also a patch they’ll be releasing soon via OTA (over-the-air) update.

i am thinking of getting an iphone and unlocking it for my Tmobile, but i heard you lose features like the visual voicemail and 3g speed. i dont much care for the voicemail, but i dont know if it is worth it to unlock it and use it for tmobile if i cant use the 3g speed, i hear EDGE is really slow.

Is there any way to get 3g speed for a tmobile iphone 3g?

should i just buy the g1? i wanted to get the iphone because it has more applications.

Definitely go with the one that has the best features and more up to date. The G1 is more up to date than the Iphone only because it’s new. Even if you come into newer updates I am sure you can switch it in later.

Hello everyone,

I've got a T-Mobile Wing, but I want to switch to a G1.

I like the functionality of the Wing, but I'm disappointed with it. It takes a number of seconds to switch from portrait to landscape mode when I open the keyboard, and takes even longer for me to make a call or send a text message. The hardware is just TOO SLOW! Most recently, and what’ compelled me to write this question, I went to open my camera and it gave me an out-of-memory error. It tells me to shut down any open applications, but I have nothing open. This happens about every week or two, I have to restart my phone in order for my camera to work again. I'm just sick of the Wing.

I want to get the G1, as I'm Google-Centric (sorry Yahoo-ers, I still love you!), excited about the Android platform (I'ma developer, myself), and it seems to fit my needs better.

The problem is that I've had the Wing for too long to return it.

What I've done so far is called T-Mobile tech support, and I'll be getting a new Wing in the hopes of fixing this memory issue. I have to go through three Wings in order to qualify for a new phone model. I'm hoping to get 3 bad ones, and I don't think that’ such a long shot.

Does this sound like it will work? Is there something I'm not thinking about that would be an easier way to trade this Wing for a G1? Is there anyone who’ NOT had the out-of-memory error on their Wing?

the blackberry has different software from the G1 phone.

That is because the blackberry has a different plan associated with it unlike the G1.

im looking to get a really nice phone that i can get on the internet from and thats good quality. i currently have t-mobile so i thought getting the G1 would be better so i didnt have to switch companies but recently my ipod broke and since the iphone also acts like your ipod…..that would be nice but its all touch and the G1 has a keyboard and i text alot so that would be nice also. prices really dont mean much to me. soo im just not sure which to choose.

Im with tmobile also and Im getting the G1. Iphones even if they are unlocked, dont work very good with t-mobile service. I heard that there will be a even better G1 phone coming out in Spring of ‘09

It all depends on what your looking for. If you are one to like texting with buttons and not a touch screen than go with the G1, but if your looking for the best touch screen experience on the market than the iPhone is for you. Both phones have a SDK(software development kit) meaning they have some kind of application store where you can add nifty games or random applications on the phone. When it comes to pricing for extra options the 3G iphone is 30$ for data and 20$ for unlimited texting. The G1 phone is 35$ together for both unlimited texting/data. In my opinion I would go with the iphone for having the best touch screen experience

If you’re looking at "WOW! Factor" I’d definitely go with he iPhone. The g1 needs a makeover. The iPhone keyboard is not nearly as bad as people have said it is. Once you get used to it; it’s simple. However the iPhone has no haptic feedback which makes it harder. I’ve been comparing phones for almost a month and the LG Vu won between Cingular and Tmobile, because I am also trying to decide between these 2 companies. It all comes down to personal preference…. go to each store and compare the phones… Tell the customer service that you’re just looking so they don’t try to persuade you right away. Get the feeling for each, send a text on each and pick the one want to see yourself pulling out your pocket to reply to a text with.
